Elder is gaining a lot of attention as a fruiting plant, bearing clusters of dark purple berries that are made into tasty jams, juice and wine. The flowers are also used to make an aromatic syrup. Birds also love the fruit, so this wild shrub is popular for naturescaping. The showy white flowers occur in early summer, with berries ready to harvest in late summer. |
