Description: Lipstick-red peppers perform well in northern climates. Fruits are very sweet, thick-walled, juicy and have a tapered shape. These peppers are actually pimentos but their flavour profile is more like a bell pepper.

Pack size: 25 seeds

Latin Name: Capsicum annuum
Main Uses: Culinary
Days to Maturity: 70 days
Exposure: Full sun
Height: 60 - 75 cm (24 - 30 inches)
Certified Organic: Ecocert Canada

Germination: 14 days at 21 - 25° C.
Sowing: Sow a minimum of 10 - 12 weeks before planting out date. Bottom heat improves germination rates and times. Apply a weekly kelp supplement such as Sea Magic™ from time of sowing onwards to promote seedling health and development. Once the second set of true leaves have developed, alternate between the kelp and an organic transplant fertilizer such as Evolve Seedling Starter, applying each on a weekly basis.
Planting Depth: Lightly covered.
Planting in the Garden: Transplant outdoors once the soil has warmed and all chance of frost has passed (on average between June 1-7, in southern Manitoba).
Space: 30 - 60 cm (12” - 24”) apart in the garden.

Growing in Containers: Well-suited to larger pots; minimum 20 cm (8").

Fertilizing (Containers): Feed with an organic veggie fertilizer such as Evolve Tomato 3-2-2 through the season.

Watering (Containers): Water deeply and evenly - very important! Peppers will fruit poorly if plants dry out excessively... even once.

Growing in Mixed Planters: Well-suited for larger mixed planters. For productive fruiting, allow 20 cm of space per pepper in a mixed planter.

Fertilizing (Garden): Plant in a garden recently amended with compost. Weekly application of kelp supplement is associated with greater fruit set and improved late-season cold tolerance in peppers.

Watering (Garden): Water deeply to establish. Water mature plants weekly during hot weather.

Suitability for Indoors: May be grown as a specialized crop indoors.

Exposure: Brightest window (May - September) or grow lights (October - April).

What about Grow Lights? T5 or 26 - 54w CFL full spectrum lights are ideal.

General Indoor Care: Not well-suited for growing indoors.
