Description: Black seeded heirloom chickpea from Kabul, Afghanistan. A garden benefit of chickpeas is that they fix nitrogen in the soil. The peas are smaller than the classic golden chickpea but have good flavour and are higher in iron and fibre.

Germination: 14 - 21 days at 18-21°C.
Sowing: Indoors: 4 weeks before planting out. Use biodegradable, plantable pots so as to not disturb roots when transplanting. Apply Sea Magic from the first watering. Fertilize regularly with an all-purpose organic fertilizer. Plant outdoors once soil has warmed.
Outdoors: Sow seeds once soil has warmed.

Seed Spacing: Sow seeds 4" apart in rows 12 - 18” apart.
Plant Spacing: 6" (15cm).
Harvesting: Harvest pods when green for fresh peas or leave pods to dry on the plant for dry chickpeas.
Growing in Containers: If container-growing, choose a large planter. Plant 3 plants per 18" container.
Growing in Mixed Planters: Not well-suited for mixed planters.
Fertilizing (Garden): Plant in a garden bed amended with compost. No additional fertilizer is required.
Watering (Garden): Water new transplants regularly to establish roots. Once established, water deeply as required. Take care to water the base of the plants and not the leaves.
Suitability for indoors: Not suited to indoor growing.
