Botanical Name: Murraya koenigii 'Patel's Select'
Descriptions: This is one of the keynote flavours of south India cuisine... nothing else can take the place of true curry leaves in authentic recipes! This plant is completely different from the common "curry plant" (Helichrysum italicum) often sold in garden centres, which is non-culinary but has a wonderful aroma of classic curry powder. We offer the authentic curry leaf trees (Murraya koenigii)!
The Patel's Select cultivar is quite distinct from the standard seed grown varieties, with a dark leaf, smoother leaves and a faster growth habit. It does produce berries but they seem to be sterile, and the plants are propagated from pups that appear from the base. This type of curry leaf is rare in Canada!
Our experience with curry leaf is that the plants are initially slow to develop, but over time they become large, indoor and patio plants that can be harvested regularly. They do best when not situated near heating or air conditioning vents. We keep our trees a little cool through winter, which causes some leaf drop but also makes it easy to maintain them in a semi-dormant state, after which they grow vigorously through spring, summer and fall. This small tree can grow successfully in containers, reaching 3 - 5 feet indoors. We recommend growing these under lights or the brightest available window.
We grow our curry leaf trees from other own mother plants at the greenhouse.
Please Note: Due to the large size of these plants (2-gallon pots) they are only available at the greenhouse and quantities are very limited. If you need a curry leaf shipped, we have the seed grown selection available in 3" pots.
Zone: 10
Height: 100+ cm
