Flower Color: Orange
Flowering Time: All summer

Outdoors: Direct seeding is ideal, as California Poppy seedlings do not transplant well. Sow as soon as the soil is warm and nights are frost-free. In zone 3, fall seeding is not a good option. In warmer climates, seeds are often sown in fall for very early spring flowering.
Planting depth: Surface.
Spacing: Scatter in a random pattern, planting approximately 3 seeds every 6 square inches.

Growing in Containers: Not suited for containers.

Growing in Mixed Planters: Not suited for mixed planters.

Fertilizing (Garden): This plant loves poor soil. No additional fertilizing is required. The garden soil can be amended with quality compost every one to two years.

Watering (Garden): Water young plants regularly to establish, then water deeply as conditions require.

Special Requirements for Cold Climate Gardeners: California Poppy looks best when it has a naturalized feel - scatter seeds rather than sowing in rows.

Suitability for Indoors: Not suited for indoors.
