Description: Sweet, tropical-tasting gold berries wrapped in paper husks add magic to your garden. Bushy plants grow 2.5 - 3’ tall. When ripe, the husk around the fruit becomes papery dry and the fruit falls off the plant to pick picked up from the ground. Some people place a tarp underneath the plants to make harvesting easier, but either way the husks keep the fruit clean.
'Aunt Molly's' was selected by Tom and Julie of Territorial Seed and is named for their pet dog and ice cream shop.
Native to Central and South America. Use as you would a common tomato. Can be eaten raw, used in salsas, salads, as a flavouring, and in jams and jellies. Fruits are excellent in desserts. Fruits dry well.

Sowing Indoors: 4 - 6 weeks before planting out date. Sow 1 - 2 seeds per cell. It is not recommended to start ground cherries and tomatillos too early, as they get leggy. For best results, apply Sea Magic™ kelp from first watering. Apply a seedling-starter fertilizer such as Evolve Seedling once the second set of true leaves has appeared, and then alternate between the kelp and seedling starter until transplant.
Planting Depth: Barely-covered.
Planting Out: Once all chance of frost has passed or earlier with the use of a Kozy Coat.
Plant Spacing: 60 cm (2’).
Harvesting: Fruits are ready when they are plump and the husks are splitting.
Growing in Containers: Not well-suited for containers due to height, but work well in raised beds.
Fertilizing (Containers): After transplant, avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers in favour of balanced compost - this will encourage better flower-set and yield.
Watering (Containers): Check regularly. Water deeply when soil feels dry to the touch.
Growing in Mixed Planters: Not suited for mixed planters.
