Description: If you are familiar with celeriac, you will know that it is a long-storing bulbous veggie with a mild celery flavour and that it is used for roasting, mashing, and grating into salads such as coleslaw. If you aren't familiar, try it! Mars features upright plants and large, uniform roots.

Germination: 14 - 21 days, depending on soil temperature. The ideal temperature is 16 - 21º C.
Sowing indoors: Sow seeds 10 - 12 weeks before planting out date. Since this crop develops slowly over a long season, it is important to start Celeriac indoors and early. Apply Sea Magic from the first watering. From the second set of true leaves to the time of transplanting, alternate between Sea Magic and seed-starting fertilizer (such as Evolve) once per week.
Planting Depth: 0.3 cm (1/8")
Seed Spacing: Sow thickly in open flats, then transplant individual seedlings to plug cells once the second set of true leaves has emerged.
Planting Out: Celeriac bolts when exposed to cool spring weather, so transplant outdoors only after spring/early summer temperatures have stabilized and there is no chance of frost. It is recommended to withhold water for one week before transplanting outdoors, as a hardening-off technique (since exposure to cool temps is not a good idea early in the season).
Plant Spacing: Space transplants 37 cm (16") - 45 cm (18") apart; spacing will significantly impact the size of the bulbs.
Outdoors: Not well suited to direct seeding
Growing in Containers: Can be grown in large pots or raised boxes.
Fertilizing (Containers): Add up to 30% quality compost or Sea Soil to the potting mix. Fertilize regularly with an all-purpose balanced organic fertilizer.
Watering (Containers): Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Check every day or two during very hot weather.
Growing in Mixed Planters: Not well-suited for mixed planters.
Fertilizing (Garden): Plant in a garden recently amended with plenty of compost. No further fertilizing is required.
Watering (Garden): Water deeply to establish. Water mature plants weekly during hot weather.
Harvesting: Harvest in the fall, including after light frost.
