Description: A classic among carrots, Scarlet Nantes has that old-time carrot flavour. Bright red-orange flesh has a fine grain and almost no core. Roots are 6-7" with blunt tips and small to medium tops. Harvest earlier for baby carrots. Flavour is sweet - perfect when used fresh or for juicing.

Germination: 14 - 21 days (or longer in cooler soil). Light, daily watering will improve germination.
Sowing: Direct seed once the soil can be worked (12° - 21°C). Carrots do not do well seeded indoors or in starter trays.
Planting Depth: 1/4”.
Spacing: Sow seeds 1/2” apart in rows 12" apart. Thin to 2” when tops are 2” tall.

Growing in Containers: Well-suited for large raised beds, but not smaller containers.

Growing in Mixed Planters: Not well-suited for mixed planters.

Fertilizing (Containers): Plant in a composty, well-draining potting mix. Add up to 25% Sea Soil to the potting mix.

Watering (Containers): Water deeply as required.

Fertilizing (Garden): Plant in a garden bed amended with compost. No additional fertilizer is required.

Watering (Garden): Water new transplants regularly to establish roots. Once established, water deeply as required.

Companion Planting: Dill and Cilantro are said to be harmful to carrots because of a substance that is excreted through their roots.

Harvesting: Harvest just after a frost for best flavour.

Suitability for Indoors: Carrots are a specialized project for indoor growing.

What about Grow Lights? Grow lights are required to grow this crop indoors.
