Stratum is a type of mineral-rich substrate sourced from the foothills of a volcanic region in Japan. It is famous for use in both aquariums (for aquatic plants and certain aquatic creatures), and as an ingredient in potting mixes for non-aquatic plants. Aroids love stratum! The volcanic soil has an excellent shape and structure to promote rooting, and to encourage aeration around established roots. 

Stratum can be gently rinsed before use (to remove dust), but should not be agitated as this breaks up the small clumps of volcanic soil.
