Botanical name: Gladiolus callianthus

Description: Although the name "Acidanthera" does not roll off the tongue the way more familiar bulbs do, don't miss the opportunity to grow these easy-going, delightfully fragrant flowers! Adds a carefree tropical feel to patio space. Excellent cut flower with up to a week of vase-life.

Directions: Start your Acidanthera bulbs indoors anytime from March through May. Since these bulbs are cold-sensitive and grown as annuals in pots, the main thing to consider is that starting them earlier will encourage earlier blooming. Plant in well draining potting mix setting the bulbs pointy-side up at a depth three times the height of the bulb. Plant directly to the pots you plan to set outdoors, or use nursery pots that can be set into decor pots for the summer season. Plan for one to two bulbs for every 4" - 6" of container space.
