Please note: Geoplanter Raised Beds are for Local Pick-up only.

Geoplanters are an outwardly simple, but massively helpful innovation! At the most basic level these are easy to set up raised beds that make it very simple, quick and cost effective to start great gardens. At Sage Garden we set up twenty 4 x 8 gardens in one afternoon, with one person doing most of the work. This would have taken a few days if we were using wood!

Yet it is the woven textile that geoplanters are lined with that adds the most important benefits. The highly breathable material holds moisture in nicely, yet allows the soil to breath - essential for healthy root zones. Furthermore the particular texture of geotextile encourages root branching as opposed to the winding that occurs when roots encounter traditional pots or wood raised beds; root branches are the heart and soul of the root system, so this is a huge boost for plant productivity and vigour.
Geoplanters are lined on four sides plus the bottom, so no need to set down weed barriers before planting. The geotextile fabric is designed to last many years. The UV resistant pvc framing lasts indefinitely.
Geoplanters are 11" tall, by either 4' x 4' or 4' x 8' ... so you can grow just about anything in them! All of the photos featured here are from our own geoplanter gardens.

Calculating soil requirements for Geoplanters:

4'(W) x 8' (L) x 1' (D) feet is equal to approximately 906 litres, or 1.185 yards

If making the classic square foot gardening soil recipe, you would require 302L of compost (e.g. Sea Soil, Bison, Overton Soil Builder), 302L of Peat Moss (e.g. 3 x compressed organic Pro-Mix bales) & 302L of horticultural vermiculite. This is just one example of a great organic mix for raised beds!

Another option would be to purchase bulk 4-way mix (peat, sand, compost, top soil) as your initial mix, then amend it each year to maintain it. Unfortunately there is no such thing as an organic 4-way mix available in our area (the top soil inevitably comes from conventional farm land), so if looking for a strictly speaking organic option, this won't work.

Many of our customers love blending Sea Soil (OMRI organic) and Organic ProMix Bales (also OMRI listed). We recommend using about 20 - 30% Sea Soil to 70 - 80% Pro-Mix. You could add some nice worm castings to make this even better. This would be ideal for most herbs and veggies, and a fully organic option.
