Botanical Name: Piper nigrum
Description: The true source of peppercorns, which are an even more elevated spice when used fresh! Attractive houseplant, with waxy green leaves that form a dense vine. Fruiting takes about two years from starter size.
Care: Grows very well as a potted plant wintered indoors in a warm, humid location. Provide support to the vines, which are happy to grow up and then back over a trellis.
Note: All Piper species develop little waxy beads on the leaves and sometimes stems - these are a normal structure on the plants and not pests or pest eggs (they sometimes get mistaken for bugs!).
Zone: Tropical
Height: 60 cm+ vine
Exposure: Bright indirect light (outdoors) / Brightest available indoors
Container Size: 6-inch Round Fibre (1-gallon)
