Description: Verbena bonariensis is famous for being drought tolerant, gorgeous and extremely attractive to small pollinators, butterflies, hummingbird moths and hummingbirds. The masses of purple flowers last from July into late October, and are truly low maintenance once established for the season. Although not root hardy on the prairies, Verbena bonariensis will reseed if blooms are left standing in fall (but definitely not weedy).
The seeds are notoriously difficult to start indoors, so securing established plants is as huge benefit to anyone looking to grow this awesome plant!
Botanical Name: Verbena bonariensis
