Pack Size: 25 seeds

Latin Name: Tagetes tenuifolia
Main Uses: Attractive garden ornamental; edible flowers

Exposure: Full sun
Height: 30-45 cm (12-18 in)
Flower Color: A mix of orange, yellow and red
Flowering Time: Early summer to fall

Germination: 4 - 7 days at 21°C.
Sowing: Indoors 4 - 8 weeks before the last frost, 2 - 3 seeds per cell, 1/8" deep. For best results, apply Sea Magic™ kelp from first watering. Apply a seedling-starter fertilizer such as Evolve Seedling once the second set of true leaves has appeared, and then alternate between the kelp and seedling starter until transplant.
Outdoors: Direct seed after last frost.

Planting depth: Lightly covered.
Spacing: Space 12 - 15" apart.
Notes: Marigolds, in particular French Marigolds, are a popular companion plant. The roots exude a chemical which controls soil nematodes, as well as other pests. This insecticidal action, combined with the attractive, easy-going nature of Marigolds make them very popular throughout the garden - including the vegetable patch.

Growing in Containers: Excellent choice for containers.

Fertilizing (Containers): Use organic fertilizer to avoid the salt build-up (a problem associated with chemical fertilizers).

Watering (Containers): Check regularly. Water deeply when the soil feels dry to the touch.

Growing in Mixed Planters: Excellent choice for mixed planters.

Fertilizing (Garden): Plant in a garden bed amended with compost. No additional fertilizer is required.

Watering (Garden): Water deeply to establish. Water mature plants weekly during hot weather.

Garden Companions:

  • Marigolds help: most plants, especially tomatoes and peppers, cucurbits (cucumbers, gourds, squash), and sage.

Suitability for Indoors: Not well-suited for indoors.
