Description: The veggie garden comes to life when you can grow your classic crops in a diversity of colours! This delicious Italian heirloom has vivid purple pods that turn bright green when cooked. Pods mature at 20 - 25 cm long.

(BTW: this variety goes by a few names, including Trionfo Violetta and Triumpho Violetto)

Pack Size: 20 seeds

Latin Name: Phaseolus vulgaris
Alternative Names: Pole bean
Main Uses: Culinary

Days to Maturity: 90 days
Exposure: Full to part sun
Height: 5-7'/ Pole habit
Seed Source: USDA Certified Organic

Germination: 7 - 14 days at 22ºC.
Outdoors: Direct seed once all risk of frost has passed. Sow successive plantings every 2 - 3 weeks to ensure a continual harvest. Choose well-drained soil with average fertility.
Planting Depth: 1”.
Spacing: Sow seeds 6” apart in rows 18 - 36” apart. If you are planting around a pole, sow 8 - 10 seeds per pole and thin to 4 - 5 plants per pole.
Notes: Pole beans take longer to reach maturity than bush beans, but they have a longer production period.

Growing: Pole beans require a trellis, netting or a pole to accommodate their vining habit.

Growing in Containers: May be grown in raised beds or very large planters, such as barrels. Provide a trellis or netting.

Garden Companions: Companions to beans: Beets, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, corn, eggplant, potato, radishes, kale, lettuce, peas, potatoes, swiss chard, and strawberry.
Plants to Avoid:  All members of the allium family (onions, leeks, garlic, scallions) and Kohlrabi inhibit growth in beans. Sunflowers will compete for light.

Pest/Disease Issues: Aphids can be washed off plants with a hard stream of water.

Harvesting: Harvest early and often to increase yields. Remove over-sized beans to maintain pod production.

Suitability for Indoors: Not suited for indoors.
