Zone 3

Mature Height & Width: ~ 8' x 8' (can grow taller, and also be pruned to almost any desired height and spread)

Full Sun to part shade

Self fertile (does not require a second tree for fruiting)

Elder is gaining a lot of attention as a fruiting plant, bearing clusters of dark purple berries that are made into tasty jams, juice and wine. The flowers are also used to make an aromatic syrup. Birds also love the fruit, so this wild shrub is popular for naturescaping. The showy white flowers occur in early summer, with berries ready to harvest in late summer.

This item will be available for local pick-up in late May 2024 (close to planting out time). This plant is spring nursery stock offered in a 2-gallon pot. Trees and shrubs are warrantied for 1 year from date of pick-up, provided they are planted after June 1, and watered/cared for as required (see refund policy for full details). No changes or cancellations to orchard plant pre-orders after March 1, 2024, and orders must be picked-up within 14 days of "pick-up" notification being sent in late May. Sage Garden reserves the right to make an appropriate substitution in the event of crop shortages.
