The best things about this plant are... the possibility of harvesting home-grown beans and the glossy green foliage
Details: You can grow your own coffee here in Canada! The lush green foliage of the Coffee Plant is awesome on its own, but mature plants will grow beans that can be roasted for coffee. Easy to grow, the most important thing is consistent warmth and humidity.
Coffee typically starts flowering and then bearing fruit once it reaches about four feet in height; this typically takes a few years. Once mature, coffee plants seem to be self-fertile and do not require any special process to initiate fruiting. In terms of confirmed yields from a single indoor plant in Winnipeg, we have a customer who got about a kilo of beans from her plant every year!
Plants may go semi-dormant over winter and should be watered sparingly at that time. Keep in a bright window, and avoid cold drafts of air and/or excessive direct forced air heat.
